An eight-year-old boy who was battling against cancer died in a swimming pool hours after going on a special holiday to prepare him for more treatment, it was revealed yesterday.

Andrew Morris, of Locks Heath, Southampton, was pulled unconscious from the pool at the Longleat Center Parcs resort in Wiltshire as he bathed with his mother. Medics to revive the child at the resort but, despite being airlifted to hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Andrew, who had been suffering cancer for two years, had been taken to the resort on Monday for a week's holiday as a special treat before returning to hospital for further chemotherapy. Police believe his illness may have contributed to his death and are unable to confirm whether or not he drowned.
