Yesterday, the soothing sound of the shipping forecast from Lundy to South Utsire came from Angus Deayton (left), better known for presenting Have I Got News For You, after he came top of a Radio 4 listeners' poll for reading the forecast on Red Nose day. His rendition raised pounds 4,000 towards the pounds 22m fundraising target set by the Comic Relief charity organisers.

The Spice Girls have donated all proceeds from their "Who Do You Think You Are?" single and the stars of Ballykissangel, Dervla Kirwan and Stephen Tomkinson, were among 3,000 people to take part in a two-mile fun-run in the City of London. Around 5,000 money-making events were planned around Britain. The proceeds will help thousands of people in Africa and the UK.
