Donor saves Kipling papers
An anonymous Kipling enthusiast was one of the principal sponsors behind Sussex University's winning bid of pounds 9,250 for the Kipling papers at the Chichester auction yesterday.
A woman's generous donation was the major factor enabling university librarian, Adrian Peasgood, to secure the package of Kipling's most significant documents for the nation at a price which almost doubled the estimate by Stride and Son, the firm of auctioneers which has been running sales in theCathedral city since 1896.
