Your article on teenage suicide in America, "Tragedy of the Stepford Children" (Education, 8 April) highlighted many distressing and disturbing issues that are increasingly prevalent in today's society.

Suicide is an increasingly pressing issue here in the UK as well as in the US. In the last year it is something that the National Union of Students has tried to highlight and last month we discussed it at our annual conference.

Suicide is a tragic and preventable by product of the increasing stresses and pressures students face and which our education system should not brush under the carpet.
