Young people prefer chatting to friends in pubs to getting drunk in them, and would rather dance or listen to music than meet the opposite sex, according to research carried out at Newcastle University.
The report, "Friday Night, Saturday Night: Youth Cultural Identification in the Post-Industrial City", was produced by the Department of Social Policy after a year-long study of 60 young people.
