Environment: Industry must cut emissions, says Blair
Industry must look for new, less environmentally damaging ways of producing energy in an attempt to tackle global warming, Tony Blair will say today.
The Prime Minister, who is holding a Green Business Summit at Downing Street, says in today's Times newspaper that the UK must use more renewable energy and solar power.
He says the Government is determined to look at the practicalities of coping with the threat of chaotic weather patterns in the search for real alternatives to fossil fuels.
Today's meeting of business leaders, environmentalists and ministers takes place as world leaders - including John Prescott the Deputy Prime Minister - gather in Kyoto to set limits on carbon dioxide emissions.
Mr Blair hopes to hear concrete and practical proposals. "Many of the businesses represented at today's summit are multi-national companies ... They can play a leading role in delivering cuts in greenhouse gases in both the developed and developing worlds," he writes.
