A man who launched a flame-thrower attack on pupils who were sitting A-levels at his former school was given six life sentences yesterday.

Garnet Bell, 46, was convicted on Tuesday of the attempted murder of three pupils and inflicting grievous bodily harm in the "grudge" attack a year ago at Sullivan Upper School in Holywood, Co Down.

Sir Brian Hutton, Northern Ireland Lord Chief Justice, said Bell, an unemployed electrician from east Belfast, was "a very dangerous person" from whom the public had to be protected.
