Football linesman taken to hospital after attack by Sheffield United fan at Portsmouth

LINESMAN Edward Martin (left of picture) lies unconscious after being attacked by a fan during the Portsmouth-Sheffield United match yesterday. The incident occurred after the referee had consulted him before sending off the United goalkeeper. He came round on the way to hospital; a man in a United replica shirt was arrested.

There was an upset in the Premiership when Manchester United lost at home to Leicester City, while Bath beat Brive to win rugby union's European Cup.
