Hit-and-run killer fined £3 a week
Labour MP Chris Mullin yesterday demanded tougher action against hit-and-run drivers who kill when a man was fined £3 a week after killing an elderly woman and failing to stop, writes Nicholas Timmins.
Joseph Dorward, 34, who admitted driving without a licence since he was 16, was fined £600, payable at £3 a week. Two months after he killed 84-year-old Margaret Morrison he had again been charged with driving without a licence.
Mr Mullin said his constituents "take the view that in the circumstances the life of this innocent old lady ought to have been worth more than £3 a week".
