Iran holds talks with Assad
THE IRANIAN President, Mohammad Khatami, and President Hafez al-Assad of Syria held talks yesterday on Iran's ties with Arab countries, co-operation and relations with Israel. Egypt severed relations with Tehran in 1979, accusing Iran of backing Islamic fundamentalist groups.
