Is this the end of the summer? Heavy rain swept across the UK today as the Met Office warned some parts of the country could expect frost this evening.

After the driest September on record the warm start to the morning gave way to darkening skies and heavy rain, bringing with it much colder conditions.

As the rains clear we can expect a much colder night than we’ve seen for a few months, with frost predicted in parts of the country this evening, the Met Office said.

This morning they issued flood warnings for Camptown to Jedborough in Scotland after an alert over rising river levels last night.

BBC Weather reported the temperature in London last Sunday was 25 °C, but tomorrow is due to be a maximum of only 16 °C.

The mean temperature for summer 2014 was 14.8 °C – half a Celsius point above 1981-2010 average – but not as warm as the heat wave summer Britain experienced last year.
