Knife attacker jailed
A man who stabbed a musician in the head leaving him brain damaged and suffering from epilepsy was sentenced to14 years for attempted murder yesterday.
John Broughton, 39, plunged a five-inch knife through the back of Victor Champs' head during a fight outside their homes in Westgate, Kent, in October 1996. Broughton, who provoked the fight, admitted he had drunk so much he was "paralytic".
Mr Champs, 30, spent five months at a rehabilitation centre for people with brain injuries, and has been told he will never recover from his injuries.
