Labour would ban speeding boats on Lake Windermere, Michael Meacher, the party's environment spokesman, has pledged.

The National Park Authority has won the right to a judicial review of the decision by John Gummer, the Secretary of State for the Environment, who rejected the findings of a public inquiry which recommended reducing the speed limit to 10 miles an hour. Mr Meacher said a Labour government would respect the findings.
