Mayhew sacks police reformers
The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Sir Patrick Mayhew, yesterday sacked the province's Police Authority chairman, David Cook, following an internal row over the structure of the RUC and a no-confidence vote last month.
A leading member of the authority, journalist and author Chris Ryder was also dismissed. Both are generally perceived as moderate reformers.
