The name of Irish pop singer Stephen Gately is the most searched for term on Google on Friday October 16 at 8:30 AM GMT.

Stephen Gately, former member of the popular boy-band Boyzone, passed away on October 10 at the age of 33. A postmortem autopsy found that he died of natural causes related to an undiagnosed heart condition whilst on holiday in Majorca with his partner.

Preparations are underway for the singer's funeral which will be held in Dublin on Saturday October 17.

People in the Netherlands have been actively searching for the Dutch term "Staatsloterij", Dutch for "State Lottery". A record number of tickets (11.1 million) were sold for the Saturday October 10 draw where a jackpot of 27.5 million euros was up for grabs.

The search terms with the most significant growth worldwide within the last seven days as measured by Google Insights, recorded on October 16 at 8:30 AM GMT are:
