It might still be close in the US, but Barack Obama is the clear frontrunner with the British media with 6,535 mentions across UK press, television and Internet in September, compared to John McCain's paltry 6,457. But the Palin factor was much in evidence, with Mr McCain's running-mate garnering 3,237 mentions in Britain, while Obama's No 2 Joe Biden managing a meagre 1,143. (Source: Ebiquity Newslive)

Q Awards

2lan Carr will host the Q Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London this lunchtime, but the Channel 4 funny man may yet be upstaged by Grace Jones who, though unannounced, is expected to attend. That should keep the organisers busy because, during the recent Bestival music fest, Jones insisted on being driven to the toilet in a blacked-out van and having her minions clean the cubicle three times before she entered.

What's up doc?

Channel 4's Hamish Mykura is always up for a scrap. After the furores over the Diana crash documentary and the "global warming swindle", he is planning a clash with BBC documentaries boss Richard Klein at next month's Sheffield Doc/Fest over which public service broadcaster has the best factual shows. And all this after C4 has just axed 150 of its staff.

Job market

2A comms director's role is up for grabs – with a 50k salary – at the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. But all the hard work has been done already, by disguising the dubious attractions of woggle-wearing and campfires behind the genius rebrand of the organisation as "The WAGGGS". That should ensure it appeals to all young British females at least.

Big week for...

2The ITV executive chairman Michael Grade, who, after welcoming the broadcasting regulator Ofcom's proposal to allow ITV to cut back on regional programming, is due to stand up over the bacon and eggs at breakfast at a posh London hotel on Wednesday to make a keynote speech on the impact that Ofcom's findings will have on the future of Britain's creative economy.
