Kate talks! Supermodel grants her first interview

With her much-anticipated new clothing line due soon, the world's most famous model has granted her first interview. By Jonathan Thompson

She's done Versace, Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana. She's done heroin chic and cocaine. But tomorrow, Kate Moss will do something she's never done in public before: words.

One of the world's most famous models, Moss has refused all print interviews since bursting on to the scene at the age of 15. Now 33, and after appearing on the covers of more than 300 magazines, the supermodel has spoken to 'Vogue'. The interview deals with everything from Moss's high-profile relationships to scuffles with the paparazzi and her new clothing line for Topshop. It also features the first pictures of the 80-piece range, including the £45 blue and grey poppy-print silk dress shown here.

In the article, Moss says she is resigned to a paparazzi-plagued life, with convoys of vans following her. Moss also reveals that police have been interviewing her neighboursand are considering serving Asbos on photographers staking out her home.

The article includes Sir Philip Green's account of the unorthodox, pushy manner in which Moss originally signed for Topshop - in a deal for which she was paid a reported £3m.

"Kate came to me," says Sir Philip. "We ran into each other and she says, 'I'm a Croydon girl and you're a fella from Croydon - we should do business.' I said, are you serious? Give me a call. So she said, 'I don't go to meetings', but about a week later her PA called and said, 'Can Kate come and have lunch tomorrow?'"

Moss says she chose to do a high-street collection rather than haute couture: "I'd talked to lots of people in the business about designing my own thing. Everyone said I should do something but I didn't want to be a designer designer and have to do shows and all of that. I've seen that stress.

"I kind of got bits from my closet. We started dragging things out I liked. We looked at stuff and I said, well, that if it was like this or that, and in this fabric or that? It's great. I can say I want this boot, with that heel. There are things I want that I can't find. Like anyone.

"I thought it should be a bit... edgy. Just because you're wearing a pretty dress it doesn't have to be all pretty-pretty. I'd just got this book of photographs about that club Studio 54, and I wanted it more like that."

Moss's range at Topshop is launched on 1 May - a date that staff have dubbed "K-Day".
