THE QUEEN was so angered by the hostile tone of some press and television coverage of last month's Public Accounts Committee report on how public funds are spent on maintaining royal palaces that the matter was referred to her lawyers - a move marking a further decline in media relations with the Royal Family.

Since then, however, all has been quiet. The Queen's solicitor, Henry Boyd-Carpenter, is referring queries to Buckingham Palace, which in turn says there has been no further coverage and no action is being taken.
