For the second year, it's time to place nominations for Tweets by the Twitter community. Honoring the body of work of users and contributors, or more officially phrased - the Best Producers of Short Real-Time Content (140 characters or less), the democratic online voting process covers more than 27 categories and communities.

In February, nominees will be narrowed down to five finalists in each category. Winners are selected though popular vote and members of the "Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences," who include performer MC Hammer, the director of the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Media Lab, Frank Moss, and New York Times columnist David Pogue. An awards ceremony, featuring 140-character acceptance speeches, will be held in March in New York City.

Some of the official categories include: apps, art, advertising, celebrity, design, food, humor, innovation, music, politics, science, sports, travel, and weird. Community categories to vote in include green, gaming, lgbt (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender), fashion, vegan, steampunk (a subgenre of science fiction), and literature.

Currently Mr. Unfollowr, whose bio reads "track your unfollows and get direct," holds the lead in the "apps" category, film writer and actor Marlon Wayans is tops for humor, NASA is number one in the government category, Britney Spears in music, and Canadian actor Nathan Fillion is a top contender for celebrity. Others in the mix include Chelsea FC and Wired magazine.
