The Webbys and Streamys salute Galifianakis and others

The 14th annual Webby Award nominees were announced Tuesday with a nod going to actor Zach Galifianakis (
The Hangover,
Up in the Air), for best series for his online talk show "Between Two Ferns" featuring his interviews with celebrity guests.

Galifianakis's show on the Funny or Die website won The Streamys (www.streamys.org) last week for best comedy web television series.

The 14th annual Webbys, considered the Oscars of the internet, honors the internet's best in 100 categories, ranging from entertainment and news to best viral video.

In news, the New York Times led with 15 nominations for writing and photography, with the BBC as the second most-nominated website.

In comedy, websites CollegeHumor and the Onion took six nominations each. Also recognized was comedian Stephen Colbert for ColbertNation.com, a complement to his Comedy Central TV Show.

"The Muppets: Bohemian Rhapsody" was selected as one of the nominees for best Viral videos, along with Lindsay Lohan's eHarmony Profile and "David After Dentist," a video of a disoriented boy post-surgery, watched more than 50 million times on YouTube.com.

"Carl Sagan, A Glorious Dawn" was a nominee for Video Remixes and Mashups.

Isabella Rossellini got another nod this year for her performance in Green Porno Series for Long Form Series and Experimental and Weird categories.

The rise in applications for mobile phones and other technology was recognized this year. Foursquare, an app that allows users to track their friends' tips on various locales, received a nomination in the social networking category.

The Webby winners will be awarded at a ceremony in New York on June 14. Acceptance speeches are limited to five words. The judges include David Bowie.
