BBC's move north to be audited
Monday 02 April 2012
The National Audit Office (NAO) will carry out a value-for-money review of the BBC's move to Media City in Salford later this year.
Its report, which will be published in the winter, will be "a review of progress against timetable and budget", according to the BBC Trust.
Around 2,000 BBC staff are now based at the site, including people working for Radio 6 Music, the BBC Sport website and part of Radio 5 Live.
Flagship football show Match Of The Day is also broadcast from the site, but the move has not been without problems.
Some on-screen talent has refused to move north, including BBC Breakfast presenters Sian Williams and Chris Hollins, who described it as a "political" decision.
Peter Salmon, director of BBC North, came under fire when it emerged he would only be renting a flat near the site because he did not want to move his wife, former Coronation Street actress Sarah Lancashire, and young family while his children were still in school.
But he later said he would move permanently when it fits with his children's education.
The NAO will also conduct a review on financial management within the corporation this year.
