ITV insisted has insisted that no decision had been made on who would replace Fern Britton on This Morning, following reports that Holly Willoughby was in line for the job.

Speculation over who would fill the coveted spot on the sofa has been rife since Fern, 51, announced in March she was leaving the show after ten years.

Melanie Sykes was the front runner for some time, and former king of the sofa Richard Madeley backed Myleene Klass in April, but today The Sun reported that Holly was set to be reunited with Dancing On Ice co-host Phillip Schofield on the popular daytime show.

The newspaper quoted show sources who said the fact that Holly, 28, recently gave birth to a son, Harry, would give her common ground with many This Morning viewers.

But a spokeswoman for the show said: "No decision has been made at the moment, but one is expected in the next few weeks."
