Johnny Vaughan is to replace Chris Tarrant as the presenter of Capital Radio's breakfast show.

Vaughan, a former host of Channel 4's Big Breakfast, will join the London radio station in the spring. He has signed a three-year deal for the programme, which attracts audiences of more than 1.5 million.

Vaughan has also presented his own BBC chat show and is The Sun's film critic. He said: " I'm used to early mornings so getting up won't be a problem - my only hope is that I look as good as Chris Tarrant does in 15 years' time." Tarrant, who will have been in the job for 17 years when he steps down, said: "I'm now off to enjoy life without the early starts and I won't miss the alarm going off."
