A motorist was critically ill in hospital last night after being set upon with a rice flail in a road-rage attack which was witnessed by his 13-year-old daughter.

Jimmy Demetriou slumped to the ground in a pool of blood after being struck seven times about the head with the martial arts weapon. The attacker ignored the screams of his daughter Katrina and wife Suzanne. The attack came after Mr Demetriou had stopped his car on a main road at Southgate, north London, to confront another driver fearing there would be an accident. An 18-year-old man was being questioned by police.
