JILL DANDO, the murdered television presenter, left more than a million pounds, but no will, papers released yesterday revealed. Administration of Ms Dando's estate has been granted to her brother Nigel, a journalist, for the " use and benefit" of her father Jack, who is in his mid-80s. But the lack of a will means the family will have to pay pounds 276,000 in inheritance tax from the net total.

The gross figure was pounds 1,181,207 but only pounds 863,756 was left after deductions for mortgage and the income tax she had to pay because she was self-employed.

Ms Dando, 37, had agreed to the sale of her pounds 350,000 home in Fulham, south-west London, and she is believed to have earned almost pounds 400,000 a year from her broadcasting work. She and her fiance, Alan Farthing, were planning to marry in the autumn. It is believed Ms Dando signed a pounds 200,000 picture deal with OK! magazine to cover her wedding.

She was killed by a single shot in the head outside her home in Fulham. Despite a massive police investigation, identification of a suspect by 12 witnesses and the offer of a pounds 150,000 reward, no one has been arrested. Various theories included a lethal stalker, a jealous former lover, criminals convicted through her Crimewatch programme and even Serbians retaliating for the Nato bombing of the TV station in Belgrade. Detectives are concentrating on the possibility that she was killed by a man she had got to know well.

Nigel Dando was said to be on holiday yesterday and unavailable for comment.
