Findings concerning a breast cancer drug treatment could save many hundreds of lives, scientists said.

Preliminary results from an international trial involving 3,000 women suggest that doctors should prescribe tamoxifen for at least five years rather than two, as at present. Other findings published in the US Journal of the National Cancer Institute indicate that a course of treatment lasting 10 years might be even more beneficial.
