British business is losing pounds 32m a year because workers are skipping lunch breaks, according to a report. Office workers are taking fewer and shorter lunchbreaks and most are eating while they work, which takes a toll on their well-being and performance at work.

The survey found more than 25 per cent of office-based workers take a break of 30 minutes or less and 20 per cent regularly skip lunch altogether. Four out of five regularly eat lunch at their desk. Of these, more than 70 per cent continue to work while they eat and almost 90 per cent still answer the phone. The research, commissioned by Boots the Chemists, claims that without lunch workers will feel less effective in the afternoon.
