Antonio de Nigris: Globe-trotting footballer

Antonio de Nigris, who died of a suspected heart attack on 16 November aged 31, was a globe-trotting footballer who played in six different countries, representing 12 clubs in nine years.

Born in Monterrey, Mexico on 1 1 April 1978, de Nigris (right), who played as a striker, began his career with Monterrey then played for two seasons in Spain. He made little impact at Villarreal and Polideportivo Ejido, returning to the Americas with Once Caldas. The Colombian side met Porto in the 2004 Intercontinental Cup, played between the winners of Europe's Champions League and South America's Copa Libertadores. De Nigris scored in the penalty shoot-out defeat to Porto.

After another stint in Mexico, he joined Santos in Brazil in 2006 but soon moved to Turkey, playing in quick succession for Gaziantep-spor, Ankaraspor and Ankaragücü. He was released from the latter side due to heart problems and joined the Greek club Larissa. De Nigris won 16 caps for Mexico, scoring four times.
