Julian Slade
It was not Trelawney that Julian Slade [obituary by Tom Vallance, 23 June] was involved in in 1972, nor was this based on Thackeray, writes Aubrey Woods. Trelawny was an adaptation of Sir Arthur Wing Pinero's play Trelawny of the Wells with the book by myself, music and lyrics by Slade and collaboration on the adaptation by George Rowell. It was first produced at the Bristol Old Vic, directed by Val May and starring Ian Richardson, Hayley Mills and Timothy West.
