Alan Titchmarsh airlifted to hospital 'in agony' after finishing meal

The 66-year-old was told the pain was caused by gallstones and has now recovered

Alan Titchmarsh was left in "agony" and had to be rushed to hospital after eating fish and chips followed by an Easter egg.

The TV gardener was airlifted to hospital after collapsing last week following the large meal, reports The Sun.

After going to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport on the Isle of Wight he was flown to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth where he was treated for gallstones.

“Alan was in agony after eating fish and chips and an Easter egg,” his agent reportedly told the newspaper. “He was airlifted to hospital but was quickly told the pain was caused by gallstones. He is in tip-top condition and has been out boating since.

“He will be looking at the food he eats,” they added.

Gallstones are small stones, usually made of cholesterol, found in the gallbladder. The common illness is often due to a chemical imbalance in the gallbladder usually caused by high levels of cholesterol.

A spokesperson for Titchmarsh told the Independent he is fine now and they won’t be commenting any further.
