The National Meningitis Trust starts its annual awareness week today to raise public knowledge about the symptoms and development of the sometimes fatal disease bacterial meningitis. On Tuesday 16 November, too, a concert is being given in aid of the trust by English Concert, at St John's Smith Square, London SW1. Anthony Rolfe Johnson, tenor, Peter Hanson, violin, and Paul Goodwin, oboe, will be performing music by Handel, Bach, Purcell and Rameau. All proceeds will go to the Meningitis Trust, which also funds research into meningitis - including vaccinations against the disease - and helps those affected by meningitis.
