Billboard magazine has deleted a tweet about Kim Kardashian's daughter North West after it provoked a backlash online.

The main Billboard Twitter account tweeted a picture of North West being held by her mother while eating a lollipop. The caption above it read: “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” It linked out to an article about video footage of North West, where the toddler was seen telling paparazzi: “No pictures”.

The deleted tweet

The image appeared on its verified Twitter account for two hours before it was deleted after a number of users left angry responses. The picture had been used nine hours before on the page with the caption: “North West is already pretty sassy (but in a cute way).”

“Well this is disgusting,” wrote one user. “Nope,” wrote another. “Delete this tweet immediately.”

Billboard apologised later in a tweet. "We apologize for the tweet involving North West," it said. "The caption was about her comments to paparazzi. The suggestion some see was not intended."

The Independent has contacted Billboard for comment.
