Billie Piper questioned by police after car accident leaves cyclist 'seriously injured'

The actress, who starred in Doctor Who, was so shaken by the incident she was forced to cancel her appearance in show Great Britain

Billie Piper was questioned by police after the vehicle she was driving collided with a 16-year-old cyclist, who was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The actress, who starred in Doctor Who, was travelling in her black Volkswagen Golf when she reportedly attempted to perform a U-turn on a road behind King’s Cross station in London at around 4pm on Tuesday 29 July.

Her two sons, Winston, five, and Eugene, two, where in the back of the vehicle at the time.

According to the Mail on Sunday, she was travelling at under five miles per hour when she came into contact with the cyclist as she crossed Goods Way. It is thought that the male teenager, who was apparently travelling downhill at some speed, crashed into the back of the car, and was subsequently thrown onto the ground.

A witness then dialled 999 and police soon arrived to take statements from Piper and onlookers at the scene of the accident.

The teenager then received treatment from the London Ambulance Service for a shoulder injury, before being driven to University College Hospital for further treatment.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called to Goods Way, King’s Cross, by the London Ambulance Service at 15.56hrs on Tuesday, July 29 to reports of a road traffic collision between a motor vehicle and a cyclist. The driver of the vehicle was female. Enquiries continue. No further details at this stage."

Piper, who was not arrested, arrived at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank where she was due to perform the same evening.

However, she was left so shaken by the incident, she was forced to cancel her performance as Paige Britain in Great Britain just 15 minutes before the curtain went up, leaving understudy Jo Dockery to replace her at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank.

A spokesperson for Piper is yet to comment.
