But it turns out Tamara Ecclestone’s punditry skills are far better than your own.

The billionaire Formula One heiress and her husband Jay Rutland apparently put a wager on Germany romping to victory in their World Cup semi-final clash with Brazil yesterday (8 July).

Turns out, it could have been one of the smarter moves she and husband have made of late, because not only did the team beat the South Americans, but they hammered them to claim a historic 7-1 defeat – the worst in the tournament’s history.

“Think it's safe to say my investments for tonight are safe!” she tweeted at half time, following the first five of Germany’s goals.

According to The Mirror, Rutland later revealed exactly how much they’d managed to net on the wager by posting a screengrab of the odds of the European team advancing to the final – though it’s not clear from their report exactly where.

“This bet ain't looking too bad...” he reportedly captioned the shot, quoting £15,000 at 19/20, which meant he made returns of £29,250 and a profit of £14,250.

The pair are yet to confirm exactly how much they raked in themselves, however.

Meanwhile, Piers Morgan suffered a devastating loss when he bet £5,000 on the Brazilians to win in a wager with Twitter rival Joey Barton.

The former Daily Mirror editor predicted David Luiz and Fred would be the players of the match (few received more criticism) and told followers “never underestimate the Brazilians” just moments before Germany’s first-half flurry of four goals in six minutes.

He later admitted to being an “utter prat” and confirmed he’d donated the beat to a charity of the QPR midfielder’s choice, the the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Hillsborough Justice Campaign’s gain.
