Zelda Williams has been left “heartbroken” by the death of Cathriona White, the former partner of Jim Carrey

The Irish make-up artist, 30, was found dead in her Los Angeles apartment on Monday morning. Authorities discovered pills next to her body and are treating her death as a suspected suicide, although the cause has not been officially determined.

An examination is due to take place today.

Zelda’s father Robin Williams killed himself in 2014. The popular actor was 63-years-old when he died, and his death sparked a global conversation about depression, the causes, and how to treat it.

The 26-year-old reacted to Ms White's death on Tuesday, writing: “Heartbroken to continue to watch sweet, kind souls be consumed by darkness. May it never hurt less, so we never grow numb to the loss."

She also urged followers to look at the work done by Pieta House, a suicide-prevention charity based in Ireland.

Zelda penned a heartfelt open letter addressing her grief earlier this month, where she sent a message of hope to those suffering from depression. "I know how dark and endless that tunnel can feel," she wrote, "but if happiness seems impossible to find, please hold on to the possibility of hope, faint though it may be."

Carrey said he was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the death of his “sweet Cathriona”. The pair reportedly had an on-again, off-again relationship and had split-up the week before.

“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled,” the actor said in a statement.

“We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Ms White's family expressed their grief in a statement on Tuesday evening: “The family of Cathriona White sincerely regret the untimely passing of their beloved daughter and sister.

“Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family.

“We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss.”
