Chris Pratt is fast becoming one of the most in demand actors in the business.
But life hasn’t always been a hallmark of success for the Guardians of the Galaxy star.
The actor, 35, shared an image of a beaten-up old white van on his Facebook page. No, not his embarrassing first car (it does have some dodgy cartoon graphics of Scooby-Doo pasted onto the sliding door), but actually where he used to live when he was formerly homeless.
“Can't believe I found this picture!!!” he captioned it. He really couldn’t believe it, either, hence the need for not one, but three exclamation marks.
“That is the van I lived in!!! In my hand is the script for the movie that got me out of Maui. Crazy.”
Pratt dropped out of college aged just 17, buying a one-way ticket to Maui, Hawaii where he spent most of his nights sleeping in a tent on the beach before upgrading to the vehicle.
“[Maui] is a pretty awesome place to be homeless... It would be different if I lived on the streets of Chicago and ate garbage from a dumpster,” he told The Independent in July.
“[In Hawaii] we just drank and smoked weed and worked minimal hours, 15 to 20 hours per week, just enough to cover gas, food and fishing supplies. You know, it was a charming time.”
Pratt, who married actress Anna Farris in 2009, broke into the entertainment industry when he scored a role in short film Cursed Part 3. He went on to star in teen series The O.C, as well as movies Bride Wars and Jennifer’s Body, before winning parts in Oscar-nominated Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty, among others.
He’s currently enjoying the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, in which he plays Star-Lord. The film pulled in more than $94million at the box office in its opening weekend.
