BUCKINGHAM PALACE

14 October: The Queen this morning attended a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey to commemorate the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein.

Her Majesty was received at the West Gate by the Dean of Westminster (the Very Reverend Michael Mayne).

The Lady Susan Hussey, Sir Kenneth Scott, Major-General Brian Pennicott and Major James Patrick were in attendance.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were also present.

The Queen, Patron, this evening attended a Reception to mark the Fortieth Anniversary of the Leonard Cheshire Foundation at St James's Palace.

Her Majesty was received by the Chairman (General Sir Geoffrey Howlett) and the Director- General (Mr James Stanford).

The Lady Susan Hussey, the Right Hon Sir Robert Fellowes and Major James Patrick were in attendance.

14 October: The Duke of York, Patron, Fight for Sight, this afternoon opened the new Institute of Ophthalmology, Bath Street, London EC1.

His Royal Highness later attended the 1992 National Service for Seafarers at St Paul's Cathedral, and was received by Alderman Sir Robin Gillett Bt (the Right Hon the Lord Mayor Locum Tenens).

Captain Neil Blair RN was in attendance.

14 October: The Princess Royal, Patron, the Home Farm Trust, this morning attended the 'Learning from Experience' Conference at Church House, Westminster, London SW1.

Mrs Charles Ritchie was in attendance.

Her Royal Highness, President, Save the Children Fund, this afternoon chaired an Industry and Commerce Group Meeting at Buckingham Palace.

The Princess Royal, President, Save the Children Fund, this evening held a Reception for Save the Children Corporate Members at Buckingham Palace.

KENSINGTON PALACE

14 October: The Prince of Wales, President, The Prince of Wales's Advisory Group on Disability, this morning received the Chairman (Professor Anthony Clare) at Kensington Palace.

His Royal Highness, Colonel- in-Chief, Army Air Corps, subsequently received Lieutenant Colonel Simon Fogden on relinquishing command of 3 Regiment, and Lieutenant-Colonel Nicholas Parker on assuming the appointment, at Kensington Palace.

The Prince of Wales this afternoon received His Excellency Mr Ghazi MA Al-Rayes, the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, at Kensington Palace.

The Princess of Wales this evening gave a Reception for Help the Hospices at Kensington Palace.

14 October: The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, Colonel-in-Chief Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, was present this evening at a Reception given by the Corps at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.

The Hon Mrs Whitehead was in attendance.

14 October: The Duke of Kent, Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, today received Lieutenant-Colonel RM Jackson on assuming command of the 6th Battalion and Lieutenant-Colonel DRG Smail on relinquishing the appointment.

14 October: The Duke of Kent, President of the Cavalry and Guards Club, this evening attended a Committee Dinner at the Club, 127 Piccadilly, London W1.

Captain the Honourable Tom Coke was in attendance.

14 October: The Duchess of Kent today launched the Nottinghamshire Bereavement Trust Appeal at the Council House, Nottingham and was received on arrival by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Nottinghamshire (Sir Andrew Buchanan Bt).

This afternoon Her Royal Highness attended a Fashion Show by employees of Remploy at the Mansfield Leisure Centre and later opened the Kings Mill Hospice, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

The Duchess of Kent this evening attended a Gala Concert at the Barbican Centre in aid of 'Cities in Schools', London EC2.
