Devin Townsend premieres animated video for Casualties Of Cool track ‘Mountaintop’

The duo's atmospheric new album, Casualties Of Cool, was released this week

Devin Townsend has debuted an animated new music video for his Casualties Of Cool project.

The cartoon clip, which accompanies the track “Mountaintop”, was drawn by animator Jessica Cope.

It has been taken from the debut album by the duo, comprised of Townsend and Ché Aimee Dorval, of the same name.

“I have been a fan of Jessica Cope's work for a while now, and the opportunity to work with her rose for this album and we are thrilled with the result,” Townsend told The Independent.

“Although the concept of the video is loosely based on the concept of the record, we found it worked better as a stand-alone piece. Che and I therefore decided not to have the characters in the video portray us personally.”

In contrast to Townsend’s previous body of work, Casualties Of Cool takes an atmospheric twist on dark country.

“It sounds like Johnny Cash songs. Late night music, completely isolated sounding and different than anything I’ve done,” he wrote about the album on his official blog.

The project, which was initially announced as part of his Devin Townsend Project series, was initially launched as a pledge campaign a few months ago. It went on to become one of the site’s most successful crowd funding projects, after reaching 545 per cent of the goal amount.

The record was released this week (Monday 2 June), and is currently at No.11 in the Indie Album Charts and No.77 in the UK Album Charts.
