Eddie Zondi dead: South African Metro FM DJ dies aged 47
The cause of his death is not yet known
South African DJ Eddie Zondi has died, aged 47.
The Metro FM broadcaster complained of chest pains this morning, 16 June, but didn’t reach the hospital in time and was declared dead on arrival. The reason for his death is not yet known.
Metro FM Spokesperson Happy Ngidi confirmed the news.
The much-loved presenter was known for hosting the popular The Romantic Repertoire on Sundays from 3pm to 6pm, which featured R ‘n’ B classics.
Zondi studied Speech and Drama at the acclaimed FUBA School of Dramatic and Visual Arts in Johannesburg, before completing a six-month course on radio at Wits University School of Broadcasting with Koos Radebe.
His first radio job was at Metro FM as a weekend field reporter and eventually landed the 3am weekday slot. As his career progressed, he was given a more prominent 3pm – 6pm show.
Zondi also released four compilation CDs, entitled Zondi’s Romantic Ballads.
In February 2014, he and his family were robbed at gunpoint, after thieves broke into his Johannesburg home while they slept. They were left unharmed.
