Hailey Baldwin responds to Donald Trump's criticism of 'sad' uncle Alec Baldwin with a dig of her own

One of the most surreal aspects of Donald Trump becoming America’s President-elect is Twitter. The way he uses the network as a vehicle for sounding off, ranting and launching unbridled attacks means those he criticises can do the same back. And so the Twitter disputes between Mr Trump and his detractors begin.

Mr Trump recently voiced his displeasure with “biased” Saturday Night Live after Alec Baldwin came on board to parody him in skits that keep bring the house down, much to Mr Trump's chagrin. His disproval with Alec was expressed with his one of his most well-worn adjectives: ‘Sad’.

“Just tried watching Saturday Night Live - unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can't get any worse. Sad.” The actor's niece, model Hailey, was quick to respond with a dig of her own.

Alec's relentless parodies are spurred on by Mr Trump's anger, who only gives him more material to work with in every tweet.

When asked what she thought of her uncle’s SNL impressions on Monday, Hailey, visibly squirming, was careful to stand by her uncle without being dragged into the “back and forth” that tends to explode when someone dares challenge the billionaire business mogul.

She told Sunrise. “I think it’s funny. He kills it in my opinion. My uncle is a very, very very talented man. I mean, it’s quite evident.

“I think that the back and forth between everybody and Donald constantly having his disapproval of it - it’s so silly to me because it’s all just like play and fun. I think that most of the men in the family are all really, really naturally funny. Everybody has a good banter between each other and I think I get my humour from them.”

Baldwin’s Trump impressions have not gone down well with another man: Stephen Baldwin, ardent Trump supporter and Hailey’s father. So what did Alec do? Respond in an SNL sketch of course, simultaneously mocking his brother and Mr Trump's lack of high-profile support: “I've got Palin, Chachi and the best Baldwin brother, Stephen”.

Hailey said their comments and such public spats inevitably have an effect on her. “The thing that's tough that I still struggle with is any decision that my father makes, his choices personally or publicly, it does reflect on me,” she said in a separate interview with Today. “Whatever decisions my uncle makes there is is still a domino effect, it reflects on me. It reflects on all of us.”
