Kanye West makes thoughtful video for Kim Kardashian's birthday

The usually outlandish and extravagant Kanye West has made his wife a simple and sentimental gift for her birthday this year.

Kim Kardashian West turned 36 on Friday which was marked by various members of her large family sharing birthday wishes and love on social media.

However, Kardashian West stayed off social media just as she has done since the beginning of October, when, according to French police, she was the victim of an alleged armed robbery while staying at her luxurious accommodation in Paris. She was "shaken up" but "physically unharmed" in the incident and has stayed away from the spotlight since.

On Friday, West shared a five-minute video with his 26 million Twitter followers. The video is a collection of home videos ranging from his wife of two years' childhood to teenage years.

The video is narrated by Kardashian West’s late father Robert – the lawyer best known for defending his friend OJ Simpson in the "trial of the century" in 1995 – who passed away after a short illness with cancer in 2004.

Some people on Twitter reacted to the video, saying they felt emotional watching it.

Kardashian West’s siblings Khloe, Kourtney, Rob and her half-sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner all re-tweeted the rapper's video and thanked him for the special gift.

Earlier this week their mother Kris Jenner said Kardashian West was taking things “one day at a time” since the robbery while her sister Kourtney said she was “not doing great” in a fairly awkward interview with Australian television.

Kardashian West’s assistant also told users of Kardashian West's subscription-based app this week that she would be taking some “much needed time off” from personally updating the app.
