Kate Winslet is taking a personal stand against the unobtainable beauty standards perpetuated by the fashion and beauty industry in an attempt to be a better role model for young women.

The actress has a contractual agreement in place with L’Oréal to prevent additional editing of her appearance in the Lancome adverts she features in, making Winslet one of the few actresses to appear in beauty adverts without wrinkles being erased from images.

The 40-year-old said successful women have a responsibility to promote confidence and strength among the younger generation. As a woman in the public eye, Winslet said she wanted to be a better role model by being “truthful” about who she is.

Winslet told E! News: “I can only ever speak for myself and I can only ever do things that are important to me and it's a hope that other people might follow suit, but it does feel important to me because I do think we have a responsibility to the younger generation of women.

“I think they do look to magazines, I think they do look to women who have been successful in their chosen careers and they want people to look up to, and I would always want to be telling the truth about who I am to that generation because they've got to have strong leaders. We're all responsible for raising strong young women, so these are things that are important to me.”
