Kim Kardashian's naked pictures compared to 'Mandela's release from prison'and 'man walking on moon' by Piers Morgan

The former CNN presenter says that the power of the images should not be underestimated

Kim Kardashian’s #BreakTheInternet pictures, in which she bared all for Paper magazine, caused social media platforms to nearly explode yesterday such was their impact.

The reality television star was photographed by Jean-Paul Goude, known for snapping Grace Jones in her heyday, Vanessa Paradis as a bird in cage for Chanel and that Léa Seydoux Prada campaign. In one shot Kardashian pops a Champagne bottle, the contents of which are caught in a glass that rests comfortably on her famous derriere.

Former CNN presenter Piers Morgan said that the power of the images could not be underestimated.

“As with Man landing on the Moon, Mandela walking free from his prison cell, and Derek Jeter’s winning hit in his last game at Yankee Stadium - it was a photograph that will be forever etched in the memory,” he wrote on the MailOnline.

Kardashian reportedly was not paid for the shoot, which aimed to “break the internet” as its strapline read. The images have unsurprisingly attracted ubiquitous attention, both good and bad.

Kardashian herself appears to care not about any criticism received over the images tweeting:

Morgan interviewed the “warm, unpretentious and honest” television personality while working for CNN. He commented on the “absurd hypocrisy with regard to which female celebrities are allowed to bare their flesh without criticism”.

“When Keira Knightley stripped topless recently, she explained it was strictly to make a protest against air-brushing. Hmmm,” he wrote.

“When Rihanna, Madonna or Beyonce gyrate their booties on stage, it’s done in the name of ‘art’.

When all the supermodels got their kit off for PETA, it was excused under the banner of ‘helping the animals’ .

“When Demi Moore posed naked and pregnant, it was applauded, not castigated, because she’s a great actress and the photo appeared on the cover of prestigious Hollywood bible, Vanity Fair.

“When Chelsea Handler does it, which seems to be every day at the moment to diminishing laws of aesthetic return, it’s heralded as ‘comedy genius’.

“But when Kim Kardashian-West does it, in a photo session conducted by highly acclaimed French photographer Jean-Paul Goude, she is lambasted.”
