For a moment, Jonah Hill was visibly terrified as a man ran towards him on a busy New York street.

It turns out the man with a cap and holding up a phone in front of his face was his friend and The Wolf of Wall Street co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Although Mr DiCaprio was not a crazed fan or member of the paparazzi, the prank was still caught on video.

Mr Hill was walking along a street in New York City on Monday when he paused to look at his phone outside a restaurant.

The pair had planned to meet in the West Village.

Mr DiCaprio, coming down the same street, held up his own phone as if to take a video and ran towards his co-star.

Mr Hill seemed relieved as he realised it was his friend and they embraced.

The Wolf of Wall Street, set in New York, was released in December 2013 and generated $392 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing film for director Martin Scorsese.
