Sir: Teresa Gorman MP knows very well what the procedure is for deciding what alterations to historic buildings are permitted. You apply for listed building consent; and whether you are allowed to do what you want is decided, often after some negotiation, by the elected members of the appropriate committee of the local council.

What could be more reasonable and democratic?
