Liam Payne has attacked speculation that Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles are in a relationship.

The One Direction singer appeared on the cover of Attitude magazine's October edition and spoke frankly about his past issues with drinking, the band's decision to go on a break and his relationship with his girlfriend.

Payne also discussed his irritation over rumours that have plagued Tomlinson and Styles for years. He said rainbow flags began appearing at One Direction concerts after same-sex marriage was legalised across the US, but he attributed this to rumours that two of his bandmates were in a relationship.

“When the law changed in the US there were loads of rainbow flags flying at our shows, but I think that was mainly because people think of the Louis and Harry thing [that they’re secret lovers], which is absolutely nuts and drives me insane," said Payne.

“It’s like when you know the ins and outs of what’s going on with people it’s just annoying when it’s so stupid.

“A lot of my friends are gay and I don’t think anything about it. I actually find it funny that being gay is still something that’s talked about as though it’s not natural […] My mates are my mates, regardless of their sexuality.”
