Liza Minnelli has denied making any statement about her late ex-husband David Gest after a columnist's claims about their relationship.

Gest, a producer and entertainer, was found dead in the Four Seasons hotel in Canary Warf, London. He was 62-years-old.

Minnelli and Gest had a brief but tumultuous marriage from 2002 until their seperation in 2003. They divorced four years later.

Minnelli has not publicly commented on his death, but Cindy Adams, a writer for the New York Post, addressed their wedding and acrimonious relationship in a column this week.

“Obits always say the person was wonderful,” wrote Adams. “This guy was unwonderful. While he was breathing she wouldn’t even speak to him. Now that he’s not breathing she wouldn’t even speak about him.

“My friend Liza told me, 'He’s an a ** hole.'”

Responding to the column, Minnelli's spokesperson told The Independent: “Liza Minnelli has not addressed David Gest's passing and any suggestion that she has done so following his death is misleading.”

They declined to comment any further.
