Lucasfilm have said they ‘didn’t approve’ the use of Star Wars imagery or characters in GQ’s raunchy Amy Schumer cover, after the Trainwreck actress was pictured sucking C3PO’s finger in a Princess Leia-style bra.

The shoot, in the August issue of the men’s magazine, shows Schumer paying homage to the Star Wars universe, doing can-can dancing with Stormtroopers, smoking a cigarette in bed with R2D2 and sticking a lightsaber in her mouth.

After receiving complaints from fans, who thought the shoot was distasteful, Lucasfim, which was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2012, said in a tweet that they were never consulted over the use of their intellectual property.

“Lucasfilm & Disney didn’t approve, participate in or condne the inappropriate use of our characters in this manner,” they said.

While some fans pointed out that the use of the characters is a testament to the Star Wars universe’s cultural significance, the fact that Lucasfilm is now owned by Disney, a family company, is a major factor in the backlash.
