Macaulay Culkin death hoax: Actor responds to reports by faking own murder on Instagram

The star posed in a picture tribute to cult comedy Weekend at Bernie’s

How to reassure the world you’re still alive after the internet reports that you’re dead? Fake your own murder on Instagram, like Macaulay Culkin.

The actor posted the above image via his band Pizza Underground’s account yesterday, following several false rumours that he’d passed away.

One particularly misleading story, originally posted on MSNBC.website (not to be confused with the real MSNBC), read: “Sources are reporting that Macaulay Culkin, best known for his role as Kevin McCallister in Home Alone and sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, has been found dead at the age of 34.”

Culkin attempted to debunk the rumours with a series of images, including one tribute to cult comedy classic Weekend At Bernie’s, in which he lies motionless in the arms of a bandmate.

The 1989 movie is about two workers who elaborately pretend that their manager, Bernie, has died in order to save their own lives.

Perhaps sensing it hadn’t been the most helpful of visual aids for worried fans, he also posted pictures of him drinking punch on tour, and generally doing things that alive people do.

“We're on tour you silly people / @anchovywarhol's,” he wrote.
