Miley Cyrus has removed her short film Tongue Tied from the NYC Porn Film Festival, claiming that she didn't know it was a porn festival.

The video, which shows Cyrus in fetish gear and latex nipple covers, has been withdrawn from the event.

The singer's spokesperson said they were under the impression it was a "shorts screening at the artist-ran space Secret project Robot", which is a venue in New York. Cyrus' team said that the email chain in which the company confirmed the video could be screened made no reference to the fact it was a porn festival.

Organiser Simon Leahy was asked to remove the film from the festival listings by Cyrus' representatives, which he did.

Cyrus' spokesperson said: "Miley was proud to make a film with acclaimed filmmaker Quentin Jones. She did not instigate this festival submission and is not participating in any way."

Leahy told Page Six: "Obviously the story went totally viral that freaked everyone out. We don’t want to cause any harm to Miley and her image."

He went on to defend the artistic integrity of the festival, saying that it's more high-end than many might expect.

"We are an art festival," Leahy argued. "Even though we’re using the work [sic] porn, we’re not some cheap LA porn award festival."
